Abstract


Abstrack: This research was aimed at determining the rhetorical patterns of argumentative writing written by Indonesian Department's Students, FKIP, Bengkulu University. The models used to analyze those rhetorical patterns were top-down model and bottom-up model, at the marco level, proposed by Tirkkonen-Condit (1984) and Connor (1990). the result shows that, in genegral, student.s argumentative writings have saveral section; introduction, problem, and solution, but there are only few writings that have refutation and evaluation. at the micro level most of the writings contain the subsection of 'claim' but there are few wiritings that have 'sub-claim', like 'justification' and 'introduction'
