Parental Assistance Strategies to Enhance Children’s Creativity Using the Online Game Roblox

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital technology has shifted children’s play patterns toward online platforms such as Roblox, which offers both opportunities for creativity development and potential risks without proper guidance. This study examines how parental assistance strategies contribute to enhancing children’s creativity through Roblox.

This research employed a qualitative case study approach focusing on Family X in Padang. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving the child as the main subject and parents as key informants. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation.

The findings reveal that effective parental assistance is characterized by an adaptive and democratic approach, allowing children autonomy while maintaining structured supervision. Guidance is provided through active involvement, motivational support, and facilitation of creative activities within the platform, such as designing and building virtual objects. In addition, continuous reflection through joint evaluation enables parents to adjust their strategies to the child’s development. These integrated strategies significantly support the development of creative thinking, imagination, and problem-solving skills.

The study concludes that structured and reflective parental assistance transforms online gaming into a meaningful medium for fostering children’s creativity.
