Pengaruh Metode Demonstrasi Berbasis Media Digital terhadap Keterampilan Membaca Puisi Siswa Kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Selakau

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of digital media-based demonstration methods on poetry reading skills of eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Selakau. Poetry reading skills are performative abilities that include aspects of pronunciation, intonation, expression, volume, and tempo/pause that must be mastered in an integrated manner. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a pretest-posttest control group design. The study population consisted of 60 students divided into two classes, with a sample of 30 students each in the experimental group and the control group determined through purposive sampling techniques. The experimental group was given treatment in the form of learning using digital media-based demonstration methods through poetry reading videos from YouTube, while the control group used conventional learning. The research instrument was a poetry reading performative test with a four-scale assessment rubric for each aspect. Data were analyzed through normality tests, homogeneity tests, and independent samples t-test using SPSS at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the average posttest score of the experimental group (82.00) was significantly higher than that of the control group (53.00), with a t-count value = 8.743, df = 58, and a significance of 0.000 < 0.05. The experimental group's gain was 31.5 points and Cohen's value d = 4.28 (a very large category). Thus, it can be concluded that the demonstration method based on digital media has a positive and significant effect on improving students' poetry reading skills.
