Abstract


This study was motivated by the low ability of students with mild intellectual disabilities in self-help skills, particularly in wearing a hijab independently. The student often experienced difficulties distinguishing the front and back sides of the hijab and was unable to arrange it neatly. Therefore, a structured and systematic teaching method, namely the Forward Chaining method, was applied to help the student master the steps of wearing a hijab gradually. This research used a Single Subject Research (SSR) approach with an A-B design, conducted on a fourth-grade student at SLB Al Azhar Bukittinggi. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and performance tests. The intervention involved implementing the Forward Chaining method through several structured sessions, from the initial to the final steps of wearing a hijab. Data were analyzed visually within and between conditions. The results showed a significant improvement in the student's ability to wear a hijab after the intervention. The percentage of correct performance increased from 37% during the baseline phase to 87% in the intervention phase, with 0% data overlap. Thus, it can be concluded that the Forward Chaining method is effective in improving hijab-wearing skills among students with mild intellectual disabilities at SLB Al Azhar Bukittinggi.
