Abstract


This research was done due to students’ low learning outcomes in understanding the basics of Electronics. It aimed at improving the tenth grade students’ learning outcomes in understanding the basics of Electronics by applying the Guided Discovery Method at the Electric Power Installation major of SMK 1 Bukittinggi. The design of the research was the pre-experimental research by using the pretest-posttest one group design. The subjects were 30 first grade students majoring the Electric Power Installation at SMK 1 Bukittinggi which were registered in the school year of 2013/2014. The instrument used was an achievement test in the form of multiple choice questions that had been tested for its validity and reliability. The data gotten from the test showed that the average score of students’ learning outcomes in pretest was 66.16. However, the score increased 17.34 points to 83.50 in post-test after the application of the Guided Discovery Method. From the calculation of the Gain Score, it was found that the students’ learning outcomes improved for about 0.520 which was in the “average” category.
