Abstract

This study aims to analyze the readability level of Indonesian Language textbooks Phase D at SMP Negeri 12 Jambi City using a qualitative descriptive method. The research data comes from the Indonesian Language textbook Phase D at SMP Negeri 12 Jambi City, and data collection was carried out using the text study method. The researcher read and understood the contents of the book or reading, namely discourse, then wrote it down in a report. Readability analysis was carried out by counting the number of sentences and syllables in 100 words in the selected text using the Fry Graph. The results showed that of the eight texts analyzed, only 38% were in accordance with the expected readability level for grade 7 students. Three texts were classified as too easy, while the other two were too difficult. This shows that the grade 7 Indonesian Language textbook in the Merdeka Curriculum has not fully met the readability level required by grade 7 students.
