Abstract


The quality of the lathe is a very important thing to be noticed in the
machining process. One that affects outcomes is turning lathe chisel geometry.
This study aimed to determine differences in outcome turning lathe chisel to cut
the tip of the tapered shape and chisel lathe cut to the shape of the tip of the
turning radius in the flat, and can be references for the machine operator is better
to be used in the machining process. This type of research considered in
quantitative research. The samples used were S45C steel metal materials. Types
of data are primary data that can be directly from the results of measurements of
surface roughness parameters using the arithmetic average roughness (Ra).
Where the acquisition of data obtained through the average yield turning lathe
with chisel tip shape and radius tapered cut eye. Data analysis techniques, namely
the t test formula is processed by using SPSS version 16.0. Based on the results of
research conducted on the obtained results with the lathe turning chisel tip shape
and radius tapered cut eye that forms the value of Ra lathe chisel pointed end is
3,735, the value of Ra for lathe chisel radius is 2.09 then in get t count> t table
(12 539> 1.83) at the 5% level. Then the hypothesis that there are significant
differences between the lathe chisel tip shape and radius tapered cut eye, Hi Ho
accepted and rejected. It can be concluded that the lathe chisel with a pointed tip
shape eye pieces have a wavy result turning lathe and chisel to shape the tip of the
cutting radius has a more flat surface so that there is a significant difference.
