Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the use of welding current on tensile strength with the SMAW welding Electrode RD 260 to 2.0 mm Brand Nikko Steel With AC and DC current flows. This study used a medium carbon steel containing 0.30% carbon content. tensile test specimens were made according to standard test engine Tensometer Pull type W, test, observe the location of the breaking point specimens after testing, stress analysis, stress analysis comparing specimens welding AC and DC currents and concluded. This study used an experimental method starts by creating a suitable specimen test equipment capability Tensometer Type W. By taking 9(nine) random specimens consisting of 4 specimens with treatment welding using AC welding, 4 specimens with treatment using DC welding of carbon steel and 1 specimen was 0.30% without treatment welding. Each specimen was analyzed after tensile test and take a conclusion with the record of the largest number that is the most highly rated voltage. From the results of research conducted on specimens with creating and testing specimens with tensile testing machine Tensometer Type W are obtained on specimens Las AC average yield point 222,443N/mm ², Tension Maximum ( max) 289,926 N/mm ², Point Disconnect 164,958N/mm ². In DC welding specimens average value of the yield point 237,439 N/mm ², Maximum Voltage ( max) 299,923N/mm ², the breaking point 189,951N/mm ². In specimens without weld yield point value of 299.924 N/mm ², maximum stress ( max) 629.839 N/mm ², the breaking point 549,86N/mm ². The results of this study show Medium carbon steel welded using electrodes RD 0.30% 260 to 2.0 mm Brand Nikko Steel with DC currents Bigger voltage value 10 N/mm ². Of these conditions should be in the medium carbon steel welding uses Las AC. Keywords:Welding WithDC current has a higher voltage rating
