Abstract

This study explored the relationship between metacognitive strategies and vocabulary mastery among eighth-grade students at SMP Adabiah Padang. It employed a quantitative correlational design, using a questionnaire and a vocabulary test as instruments. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson’s product-moment correlation in SPSS 30. The findings showed no significant correlation (r = -0.096) between metacognitive strategies (M = 3.48) and vocabulary mastery (M = 13.97), although both instruments were valid and reliable (Cronbach’s Alpha = .892 and .898). While students moderately used metacognitive strategies, their application may have been inconsistent. The findings of this study is expected to provide valuable information for students, teachers and future researchers.
