THE INFLUENCE OF PEER INTERACTION ON STUDENTS’ INTEREST IN LEARNING ENGLISH AT MAN 2 KOTA PADANG

Abstract
This research was motivated by the interaction between students and their peers in the classroom, so that the dominant impact was seen on the student's interest in learning when learning was carried out. Based on the results of initial observations, this can be seen in students who tend to be happy and excited about the learning process and doing the tasks given. So that this has an influence on students' learning interests.
This type of research is a type of field research using a quantitative approach, the ex post facto method. The population in this study was grade XI students of MAN 2 Kota Padang, totaling 575 people, and a sample of 71 people was taken using a purposive sampling technique.
The results showed that peer interaction consisting of 71 respondents was mostly in the medium category with a frequency percentage of 67,61%, and the results of learning interest from 71 respondents were mostly in the medium category with a frequency percentage of 71,83%. Based on the analysis test using a simple linear regression test using SPSS version 20, a calculated F value of 17.554 was obtained with a significance level of 0.000< 0.05, which means Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. This means that peer interaction influences student learning interests. The correlation value or influence of 0.450 from the output obtained an R square value of 0.203, which can be interpreted as the magnitude of the influence of peer interaction on student learning interest being 20.3%.Keywords
