Students Attitude Towards Oral Corrective Feedback During Roleplay Activities at SMAN 23 Batam

Abstract


Role-play activities are widely used in language learning to improve students' speaking skills. However, students will inevitably make mistakes in areas such as pronunciation, grammar and word choice. One strategy to address these speaking errors is Oral Corrective Feedback (OCF). When students receive OCF during role-playing activities, their reactions can vary, with some responding positively while others otherwise. This study aims to analyze students' attitudes towards oral corrective feedback during role-playing activities at SMAN 23 Batam. The researcher used a quantitative approach, involving a total population of 193 students from grade 12 at SMAN 23 Batam. The research sample, which was obtained through proportional random sampling, consisted of 25% of the student population, which amounted to 50 students. The quantitative research was conducted using questionnaires and interview to analyze students' attitudes towards Oral Corrective Feedback during roleplay activities. The findings showed that students had a very positive attitude towards the affective, cognitive, and behavioral components of receiving OCF. Therefore, it can be concluded that students agreed that Oral Corrective Feedback improved their understanding and performance, also fostered a supportive learning environment that reduced their anxiety and their increased confidence.
