Abstract

This study examines the students' perceptions of bilingual instruction by English teachers at SMAN 1 Lubuk Sikaping. The research aims to identify how bilingual teaching methods are implemented in the classroom and to explore the students' perspectives on this approach. The study employs a descriptive quantitative method, utilizing questionnaires and semi-structured interviews to gather data from 120 tenth-grade students and two English teachers. The findings reveal that bilingual instruction is widely used by the teachers, with a balance between the native language (Indonesian) and the target language (English). Students generally view bilingual instruction positively, citing enhanced comprehension and communication in the classroom. However, some challenges, such as overreliance on the native language, were also noted. The study highlights the importance of bilingual instruction in supporting students' language learning and suggests areas for improvement in teaching practices.
