Abstract


The classroom language used by teachers is considered important in the English learning process because it affects students' motivation. The way teachers use language in the classroom, such as giving instructions, asking questions, etc. can significantly affect students' motivation by encouraging interaction. This study aims to find out students' perceptions toward teachers' classroom language and its impact on their motivation to learn English. This research was a quantitative descriptive study. The population of this study consisted of eighth grade students at SMPN 1 Ranah Pesisir. The data were collected using two questionnaires based on several indicators. The results of the teacher's classroom language questionnaire showed that the most frequently used classroom language by teachers was the question types. Meanwhile, the results of students' motivation showed that most students were interested in learning English when teachers used classroom language during the lesson.
