Abstract
There are several problems faced by EFL students in reading English such as media and material-related problems. The fandom community on Twitter provides the fans with the English reading from the fan's activity. This research aims to describe the students’ perception of the impact of the Twitter fandom community on their reading comprehension and any impact of the fandom community on students’ reading comprehension. The research was conducted using descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The population of this study was English Department Students of the Faculty of Language and Arts, Universitas Negeri Padang. Purposive sampling was employed to choose the participants, the requirements of this research were for the students who have fan accounts on Twitter (X) to associate with the fandom community and use Twitter to do fan activities. A 4-point Likert scale questionnaire was employed to obtain the data. This study has provided an analysis of students' perceptions identifying the impact of the Twitter fandom community on their reading comprehension, which showed an overall strongly positive result. All of the indicators, background knowledge, language abilities, thinking abilities, emotional aspects, and reading purposes, also showed strongly positive perception.
