The Correlation between Students’ Habit in Watching English Vlog on YouTube and Their Ability in Pronouncing Word Stress

Abstract


This study aims to determine whether the students’ habit in watching English vlog and  their ability in pronouncing word stress correlate or not. Quantitative research methodologies were used in this study.  The sample of this research were selected by a total sample, consist of 36 students of English Education Program year intake 2021. Questionnaires and tests are applied as the research instruments. The techniques of data analysis of this research using the Rank Spearman to find the correlation between two variables. It was discovered that the mean score of the questionnaire was 46.22 based on the data analysis. 82% of the students watch English vlog in a free time. Most of them watch vlog for refreshing and entertainment purposes. The data indicates that the majority of the students are in the middle category, they frequently and sometimes watch English vlogs. The student's ability in pronouncing word stress were in the Acceptable quality. It is shown that the average is 78.61. Therefore, the data analysis found that the Sig. is 0.684, which is more than 0.05. With the correlation coefficient is 0.070, it means that there is a very weak relationship. In conclusion, the H0 hypothesis was accepted and Ha was rejected. There is no correlation between students' habit in watching English vlog and their ability in pronouncing word stress.
