Abstract


The purpose of this study is to analyse the accuracy of English Department students in Universitas Negeri Padang can translate a political text both individually and collaboratively and translation techniques they used. This study used descriptive research method. Translation tests, which were obtained from 31 students who completed an English-Indonesian Translation course and were split into 14 pairs, were used in this study. The findings of the study showed that in both individual and collaborative translation, students mostly used established equivalence. The researcher found average of the accuracy level of students’ translation was almost accurate. Furthermore, there were 31 (100%) data categorized as almost accurate in individual translation. Despite, there were 12 (85.7%) data categorized as almost accurate and 2 (14.3%) data was accurate in collaborative translation. It can be seen that while both individual and collaborative translation produce “almost accurate” translation, collaborative translation seem to generate slightly higher accuracy levels.
