Author Guidelines

The editor of International Journal of Indo-Pacific Studies (IJIPS) welcomes article related to Indo-Pacific studies with the interest on politics, history, indigenous languages and literature, religion, man and the environment, ethno-history, anthropology, cultural heritage, social issues, economic development, engineering, war and conflict resolution, prehistory and archaeology, technology, and the arts. The following is a guide for authors who intend to submit their paper to the International Journal of Indo-Pacific Studies (IJIPS). The submissions should be in accordance with the following guidelines: 

  1. Articles have not been published or accepted for any publication, or are being considered for publication elsewhere. In addition to the manuscript, a written statement should be attached which clarifies that the article is original and does not contain any elements of plagiarism.
  2. Types of articles suitable for publication include the following; research reports (laboratory, field, archives), conceptual ideas, studies, theory applications. 
  3. Articles are written in Indonesian, Malay, or English (preferable) using academic language along with standard academic writing structure and composition. Manuscripts are typed 1 spaced in a quarto paper size (A4), between 4500-6000 words in length (excluding references, pictures, and tables).
  4. Article should be in form of essay which includes:
    • title (maximum 15 words) in English and Indonesia
    • Author’s name should not be written on the article but it should be put on the article metadata on Open Journal System (OJS) website (If author’s name is still on the article, the article would be rejected and author may submit on a new submission). Two or more authors in an article are prefered. Author must fill out author’s profile on OJS website that consists of author First, Middle and Last Name (If author only uses one name, fill the first name and last name with the same name), Gender, Initial, Username, Password, Affiliation (University/or Institution), E-mail, Mailing Address (complete address of affiliation: street name, city, province and zip code), Country and Bio Statement (Department or Faculty).
    • Abstract is written in English and Indonesian (150-200 words for each) which includes research problems, methods and results,
    • key words in English and Indonesian (3-5 words),
    • introduction (without subsection) which includes background, objectives, and literature reviews/ theoretical construct (if needed) of the research. The introduction section  ends with an emphasis on items to be discussed,
    • research methods
    • discussion,
    • conclusion, and
    • references.
  5. Reference list format is based on APA (American Psychological Association) style by using Mendeley Reference Management. Reference list should appear at the end of the article and includes only literatures actually cited in the manuscripts. References are ordered alphabetically and chronologically. When writing a reference list, please use the following conventions;
    • Amir, M.S. (2010). Adat Minangkabau: Pola dan tujuan hidup orang Minang. Padang: PT Mutiara Sumber Widya. 
    • Wardhaugh, R. (1986). An introduction to sociolinguistics. New York: Basil Blackwell.
  6. To submit an article, please register. Fill the password by yourself. Then click 'user home' and click 'new submission' at the end of author.
  7. Articles should be submitted online in soft files using Microsoft Word application (97-2003). 
  8. Submitting manuscripts in the correct format and in compliance to the requirements will expedite the review process and prevent undue delay in publication. The publisher reserves the right to reject or return manuscripts which are not prepared according to the stipulated guidelines.
  9. Authors will be sent notifications of the receipt of manuscripts and editorial decisions (whether the articles are accepted or not) by e-mail. Manuscripts that are not published will not be returned to the authors.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
