Abstract

This study aims to design and develop a Notion-based digital learning platform named "Atelier de Grammaire" to facilitate beginner-level French grammar instruction (A1 CEFR) designed to support student learner autonomy. The platform was developed as a centralized digital workspace to assist early-stage French learners in overcoming content accessibility barriers and cognitive overload caused by the dominance of foreign-language online references and the rigid format of conventional printed textbooks. Methodologically, this research employs a Research and Development (R&D) framework using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) with a quantitative descriptive approach. The resulting product is a website featuring A1-level grammar instructional materials, French vocabulary lists, practice quizzes with answer keys and automated feedback, as well as time-management support features. Data were gathered using an adapted Learning Object Review Instrument (LORI) version 1.5 to evaluate presentation design, content quality, and interaction usability, involving two media expert validators and two content expert validators, alongside a limited field trial with 60 students of the French Language Education Program at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Expert validation revealed technical media feasibility at 97% (Highly Feasible) and content validity at 85.56% (Highly Feasible), which was followed up with evidence-based revision. The field trial demonstrated an excellent practicality level with a student perception score of 95.59%. Evaluation results indicate that the progressive content delivery features through toggle-list mechanisms, the use of Indonesian as the medium of instruction, and the self-directed learning tools within this platform are perceived as practical and user-friendly. Overall, Atelier de Grammaire is considered feasible and practical as a supplementary medium for basic French grammar instruction at the higher education level.
