Mitos Kematian sebagai Alat Dekonstruksi Nilai: Analisis Semiotika Roland Barthes pada Naskah Drama Bulan Bujur Sangkar Karya Iwan Simatupang

Abstract


The purpose of this study is to analyze how the value of death is deconstructed through myths in the drama script Bulan Bujur Sangkar. This study is a qualitative study. The research instrument is the dialogue of the characters totaling 10 data selected based on the frequency of occurrence of words and phrases containing elements of death and ideology. In conducting the study, the researcher used the document study technique to collect reference data to find problems that will be raised as research innovations. Next, is to conduct data analysis using Roland Barthes' Semiotic Theory using two stages of analysis. The first stage is the analysis of the meaning of language (textual) which functions as a denotative sign. The denotative stage identifies phrases and words containing elements of death including 'maut', 'gift', and 'akhir' as well as ideological elements such as 'aku' and 'berangkat' in the dialogue of the Orang Tua character and the dialogue of other characters that lead to the Orang Tua character. Furthermore, the connotative stage is carried out by connecting denotative signs with the ideology of the Orang Tua character. The results of the study show that the Orang Tua character deconstructs the traditional meaning of death to create a new ideology. Death is no longer interpreted as the end of life or the consequence of life, but rather as a bridge to true freedom. Theoretically, this study contributes to the development of Roland Barthes' Semiotic Theory conceptual framework to interpret absurdity both textually and comprehensively. In terms of material, this study contributes to revealing the deconstruction of traditional values regarding death in the drama script Bulan Bujur Sangkar. This study reveals how the myth of death in modern Indonesian drama functions as a tool for deconstructing traditional values, which has not been widely studied in previous studies.
