Abstract
The title of a research article serves as a concise summary of its content and plays a vital role in attracting readers and increasing visibility in academic databases. This study investigates the syntactic structure of linguistics research article titles written by Indonesian authors and published in nationally accredited journals indexed in SINTA 3. Using Cheng’s (2012) classification, which includes five types of syntactic structures and eleven compound constituent patterns, 100 titles were analyzed through a descriptive quantitative approach. The results reveal that Indonesian authors predominantly use nominal structures (54%), followed by compound structures (40%), and a small number of V-ing structures (6%). The most frequent compound pattern is Topic–Method, indicating a strong emphasis on methodological clarity. The study highlights Indonesian authors’ preference for concise, formal, and topic-focused titles, with limited variation in rhetorical combinations. These findings provide insight into national academic writing practices and may serve as a reference for researchers seeking to improve the effectiveness and clarity of their article titles.
