Abstract


This research is an analysis of the drama Fairview (2018) by Jackies Sibblies Drury. There are two research problem. First, Fairview (2018) expose issue about white gaze toward African-American people. Second, Keisha fight against the white gaze. The method used is text-based and context-based interpretation which is linked with the Post-colonial approach and the White Gaze concept by Jacques Lacan and Joe R Feagin. There are several results of this research. First, the white gaze that African-Americans receive takes the form of bad comments and accusations such as being black in America is difficult, black people are seen as bad because of criminal cases, restrictions on black women, black women are treated badly, black people like to gamble, black people use drugs, and black people suffer from dangerous diseases. Second, Keisha fight back by speaking up and asking everyone to switch places. Fairview shows the injustices that African-Americans still receive today. This phenomenon is the meaning of the drama title Fairview, which is a pun of words Fair and View.
