UJI IN VIVO EKSTRAK BIJI KAPAS (Gossypium hirsutum L.) TERHADAP SIKLUS REPRODUKSI MENCIT (Mus musculus L., Swiss Webster)

Cottonseed have gossypol. It have antifertility effect as herbal contraception. Cottonseed used for male contraception. Regulation reproductive hormone between male and female are relative similar, so that if cottonseed used as male contraception therefore it can used for female too. The aim of this research to know effect of cottonseed extract to mice estrous cycle. The experiment used Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatments and 6 replications. Cottonseed extract is given to the mice by orally, during 25 days of once a day with dosages 0.03 (P1); 0.05 (P2); 0.07 (P3) gram/b.b and 1 group of control (K). Observations done by vaginal smear methods. Data analysis used ANOVA (p <0.05) and continued by Duncan New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT). The result shows that cottonseed extract indicated that prolonged proestrous, metestrous and diestrous. It can conclude that cottonseed extract influenced mice estrous cycle.
