Abstract

Fluorescent pseudomonads (Pf) is the biological agents that have been reported to increase the growth of various types of plants because it can produce fitohormon (auxin, gibberellin, and cytokinin), solvent enzyme phosphate, and siderophore. Information about the ability of Pf in enhancing the growth of rice plant (Oryza sativa L.) is still limited. This study aims are to determine the influence of introduction of  Pf isolates on the growth of rice plants. Research was conducted from June to August 2010 in the Laboratory of Biolo gy, State University of Padang and Laboratory of Nuclear Science and Technology Department of Land Utilization of Andalas University Padang. Vegetative growth of rice was monitored on this research. This research is experimental, the design used was completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 5 replications. The treatment given was different types of isolates are: Pf isolates Mi.1, Kd.7, Cas.3, Mp.2 (Advinda‘s collection) and -Pf (Without Pf). Data were analyzed using ANOVA and further test DNMRT at 5% significance level. The results showed that Cas.3  is the best Pf isolates in increasing rice plant height, Mp.2 and Cas.3  are the best Pf isolates in increasing the number of tillers of rice, and Mp.2 is the best Pf isolates in improving the wet weight of rice plants. Pf introduction did not significantly affect the biomass of rice plant and P content of rice plant canopy.
