Abstract

Many beginners workers in the manufacture of welded construction
connections that often don’t pay attention to strong current sare used so that the
quality of the weld to be less good. To there search on the welding current to
determine how much influence the flow of heat from the variation of the electric
welding on the Brinell hardness of low carbon steel(St37) which in welding using
electrodes Kobe Steel Rb26 Ø2.6mm.
Kind of research is experimental research, in which the test results
obtained through direct experiments to test object (specimen). So in this study the
data obtained through the Brinell hardness test results on specimens that have
undergone welding roses, followed by observation and analysis of data obtained
from Brinell hardness testing in the laboratory. Welding process specimens was
performed by using varying currents are: 60 A, 70 A, 80 A, 90A, and 100 A. While
the hardness testing performed on three test points, namely: basic metals, HAZ
regions, and the weld line for each specimen.
Result of this research showed results St37 Low carbon steel welding
electrodes using Rb 26 Ø 2.6 mm Kobe Steel's brand by using larger currents
have a Brinell hardness levels lower, and instead use a smaller stream has a
Brinell hardness higher. This is because the heat provided by each different
currents, and the heat can alter the mechanical properties of the material in the
weld. Results of this study also showed that of the three point test, the weld line
has the highest hardness values and base metals have the lowest hardness value.
