The Correlation Between Students' Verbal-Linguistic Intelligence and Learning Motivation of Fifth Semester Students of English Education Department at Universitas Negeri Padang

Abstract


This research examines the correlation between students' verbal-linguistic intelligence and learning motivation. This research is quantitative research. The participants in this study were fifth semester students of English education department at Universitas Negeri Padang in the academic year of 2022/2023. Data was collected using two questionnaires, v-linguistic intelligence questionnaire and learning motivation questionnaire. The researcher attempted to assess students’ verbal-linguistic intelligence and learning motivation level before looking for correlations. The data results indicate that the students’ level of verbal-linguistic intelligence is high. In terms of student learning motivation, students are in the moderate level category. For correlation, this research uses Pearson Product Moment. The results show that there is a correlation between students' verbal-linguistic intelligence and learning motivation, as evidenced by the value r = 0.415. The correlation is in the moderate category. This means the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
