Abstract


ABSTRACT

Reaction rate as one of the subject in chemistry must be understand by senior high school students in three level of representation. All three level of representation include: macroscopic level, microscopic level and symbolic level. The understanding of macroscopic level usually done through laboratory’s experiment, demonstration in front of the class, or field study, while for understanding microscopic and symbolic level can be done by using media during the process of learning. In this research, the learning of reaction rate was done using multimedia and worksheets to teach the concepts through 3 level of representation with the help of computer technology. The purpose of this study was to know the effectiveness of using multimedia and student worksheet (LKS) in learning reaction rate for senior high school student. This research is a pre-experimental research which used one group pretest - posttest design. The study population was all students of class XI IPA in senior high school of Nurul Ikhlas Padang Panjang. Samples were selected by using random sampling techniques, thus obtained XI IPA 2 class as the experimental class. Data in the form of students learning outcomes in the cognitive domain are analyzed using the McNemar test. The results showed that student learning outcome whose using multimedia and LKS in learning reaction rate increased significantly. This can be seen from the mean value which obtained by the students during posttes is 87.5. This value is better than minimum completeness criteria (KKM) in that research school which is 80. In conclusion, multimedia and student worksheets (LKS) that are used in learning reaction rate effective in improving student learning outcomes
