Abstract

ABSTRACT

The structure of pollen has great variations in a species. Pollen characters useful in phylogenetic and taxonomic studies of plants. The purpose of this studies was to determine the morphology structure of pollen on some variations colour of corolla Caesalpinia pulcherrima (L) Swartz. Pollen morphology have been examined by digital microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Pollen characters observed was unit, polarity, symmetry, size, shape, ornamentation, number and type aperture. From this research, pollen grains found from variations C. pulcherrima (L.) Swartz has single pollen grains or monad, polarity isopolar, radial symmetry, and size categories large. The length of polar axis (P) 58.16 to 74.11 μm, the length of the equatorial diameter (E) 59.86 to 75.97 μm, so that pollen grain shape was called Oblate Subspheroidal Spheriodal and Subspheroidal Prolate Spheriodal. Ornamentation of C. pulcherrima (L.) Swartz was reticulate. Aperture 3, the type pores and located in the equatorial. From these data can be concluded that pollen from variations colour of corolla C. pulcherrima (L.) Swartz has same in terms of unit, polarity, symmetry, size, and type aperture, but its different in terms of shape.
