Abstract

ABSTRACT

Mathematical communication skills is one of the high school math learning goals. In fact, mathematical communication skills class IX students of SMPN 1 Batang Anai have not achieve optimal results. This is because the learning is centered on the teacher and the students have not been active during learning. One strategy that can be used to improve students' mathematical communication is a strategy REACT (Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, Transferring). The aim in this study was to determine whether the mathematical ability of students to learn communication with REACT strategy is better than the mathematical communication skills of students who studied with conventional learning. This research is a quasi-experimental research design Static Group Design. The study population was all students of class IX SMPN 1 Batang Anai in academic year 2014/2015 consisting of nine classes. Sampling was carried out by random sampling technique that was selected IX.7 grade students as an experimental class and students IX.5 as the control class. The research instrument is the ultimate test. The results showed that mathematical communication skills students who study with REACT strategy is better than the mathematical communication skills of students who studied with conventional learning the significance level of 95%.
