Abstract

ABSTRACT

In this paper, an elliptical microstrip antenna for circular polarization has been simulated. In general, a slightly elliptical antenna element generates elliptically polarized radiation. The circular polarization radiation can be obtained by arranging the feeding point of the antenna element on the radial line rotated 45° counter clockwise (or clockwise) to the semi-major-axis of the ellipse. A Method of Moment (MoM) is employed in optimizing the design and achieving a good circular polarization at the working frequency (L-Band). The simulated result gives a good circular polarization at the center frequency of 1.27 GHz with ellipse axis ratio of 1.031 and 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 1.0%. This satisfying result indicate that this elliptical antenna is promising for implementing on circularly polarized synthetic aperture radar (CP-SAR) sensor onboard an unmanned aerial vehicle.
