ISOLASI DAN UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIDIABETES FLAVONOID DARI DAUN SIKADUDUAK (Melastoma malabathricum)

ABSTRACT

Melastoma malabathricum is a medical plant which has a local name “Sikaduduak” in West Sumatera. Traditionally, the leaves of the plant are used as antipyretic, analgesic, diuretic, antiinflamatory, antithrombogenic and antidiabetes. The medical properties the plant relate to its chemical compositions. The preliminary tests showed that “Sikaduduak” leaves contained flavonoid, saponine and steroid. The objectives of this research are to isolate flavanoid from “Sikaduduak” leaves and to know antidiabetes activity of the isolated flavanoid. The characterization of the isolated products showed that the flavonoid compound can reduce the blood glucose of white mouse at 40 mg/kg BB and 80 mg/kg BB. However 80 mg/kg BB has better activity.
