Abstract

Mangrove is functioned to restraint wind and waves, and also nursing area for sea biotic, such as Penaeid shrimp. Defect in mangrove directly disrupt life of fishes, crabs, and shrimps. This research is aimed to find the relationship between mangrove woods and Penaeid shrimps densities in Laguna Mangguang, Pariaman. This is descriptive research and located in Laguna Mangguang, Pariaman, from January to March 2012. Mangrove woods density determined in 5x5 area-sized and Penaeid shrimps were caught with wiring in the same area-sized. Data is analyzed in two ways: descriptively and Pearson correlation that purposed to find the relationship between free-variables (X) with variable (Y). The results show that mangrove density in Laguna Mangguang is in scarce category that is 0.946 tree/m2, and Penaeid shrimp density is low that is 1.801 shrimp/m2. Correlation coefficient is moderate that is 0.464, with positive determination coefficient by 0.215. This means that 21.500% of mangrove’s density has an impact on Penaeid shrimp. It can be conclude that the highest density of mangrove woods contributed to advanced number of Penaeid shrimp.
