Abstract

There has been much written about e-learning practice however little attention has been given to e-learning theory. This paper presents ten hypotheses for e-learning in an attempt to focus attention on the underlying principles that apply to e-learning in various situations. This principle sets e-learning as a means of education as opposed to a mode of education. In other words, e-learning involves the use of a number of technological tools that can be applied in various contexts; it is not a distinctive educational system in itself. Instead, e-learning is a means by which these education models can be implemented. Students can be encouraged to construct their own knowledge using technology tools based on Web Technology such as e-learning itself, e-Book, Web Blog, and those same tools can also be used to present materials that deliberately lead students to pre-determined conclusions in highly structured ways.
