ANALISIS KESALAHAN TRANSFORMASI SOAL PADA KEMAMPUAN REPRESENTASI MATEMATIS SECARA SIMBOLIK

Abstract


ABSTRACT

Lack of mathematical ability can cause difficulties in solving mathematical problems for students. The difficulties can be seen from their mistakes in mathematical representation either on visual, symbolic or verbal when completing mathematical problems. This study interested in analyzing error in transformation aspects of problems in the mathematical representations ability of symbol and find out the causes of mistakes. To answer that, we conducted field research with 25 students in VIII4 class MTsN Sunggayang in the form of descriptive research. Students were given a designed test to measure their representations ability to solve problems. Interviews were conducted on students who did mistakes in answering mathematical problems. The data were analyzed with data tabulation procedures, analyzing test results, reducing data, presenting data and drawing conclusions. In general, students' mistake is inability to choose and to use the right method or formula to answers the problems. As a result they perform incorrect calculations and get the wrong answer. That happens because they unfamiliar with solving transformational problems activity.
