Abstract


ABSTRACT

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is caused by a blockage in the coronary arteries so that the distribution of blood and oxygen to the heart muscle becomes blocked. CHD is the fifth largest cause of death in Indonesia. West Sumatra had the most number of patients with CHD among 30 other provinces. CHD is caused by genetic factors such as chromosome mutation. Beside that, lifestyle factors such as the diet, exercise, and smoking are also a trigger occurrence of CHD in someone. The purpose of this study was to reveal the pattern of genetic inheritance, diet and exercise of Minangkabau ethnic CHD patients.This is a descriptive study. Respondents were a hundred of CHD out- and inpatient of West Sumatra special heart hospital and general hospital of Dr M Jamil Padang. Data obtained by interview. Data were analyzed quantitatively. The study showed that CHD inherited in an autosomal dominant. Men CHD patients are more than women. Ninety-nine percent of respondents have a low fiber diet and 56% of respondents have a high energy diet. Fifty-six percent of respondents did not do exercise before suffer from CHD. This study suggests that the occurrence of CHD in patients of Minangkabau ethnic caused by genetics factor that are inherited in an autosomal dominant manner and is supported by a bad lifestyle.
