The purpose of this study was to obtain information about employee perceptions about the leadership style of direct supervisors in the education department in the province of west sumatra by looking at aspects of both leadership style that is task oriented and leadership style that is oriented towards subordinates. The population used in this study were all employees in the education department of wets sumatra province, amounting to 196 people and a total sample of 68 people in the education office in west sumatra province. The research instrument used was a questionnaire with a likert scale of 5 alternative answers that had done validity and reliability and obtained valid and reliable results.analysis of research data using the average formula. The results of this study employee perceptions about the leadership style of direct superiors in the education service in the province of west sumatra on an avarage score of 3,96 with good.
